The Bobsleigh Hotel in Bovingdon is closing down

Unfortunately, it was reported yesterday that The Bobsleigh Hotel in Bovingdon has announced its closing its doors for good, leaving many people stranded with their wedding and event bookings facing uncertainty.

This news has come to a massive shock for many especially those about to get married.

Closing at the end of November

The hotel has decided to inform all guests, that any wedding and functions booked after the end of November will be cancelled, leaving many bride and grooms in the lurch.

A spokesman on behalf of the Bobsleigh hotel said, “We can confirm that the Bobsleigh Hotel will cease trading. As a result we will now enter a period of consultation with all staff. As a priority, we are also in contact with all customers who have outstanding reservations at the hotel. The hotel is no longer operating at a viable level and to upgrade the existing property to the Macdonald standard would require extensive investment that is economically unviable.”

What can people do instead?

This isn’t much consolation for many awaiting their special day, only to find out their wedding venue has gone.

There was a report that a couple from Hemel Hempstead first started to get worried when they heard rumours on social media websites about the hotel planning to close, but had yet to find out officially. Unfortunately, for them, the rumours came true, leaving them with no venue just 5 months before their big day, this left them both feeling disappointed and let down.

After receiving a full refund, it appears the couple have now found an alternative location, at the last minute for their special day, but with higher room rates, this has cost them a lot more than expected.

Alternative venues?

The Cock Inn at Sarratt have excellent wedding and function facilities with a large barn restaurant available and we would be delighted to help anyone who needs an alternative venue following the Bobsleigh Hotel’s closure.

Brian Eccles, the owner at The Cock Inn at Sarratt said “We have always had fantastic facilities here at the Cock Inn including a large function room, as well as outdoor areas for keeping children entertained. We will do our best to accommodate anyone who has been left stranded by this disappointing news, and promise to make this special day as magical as ever for them.”
