The Cock Inn at Sarratt Walk

Full Map of the walk

1. From the pub, with the churchyard in front of you, turn left along Church Lane. After 60 yards, bear right and walk past the Gothic brick cottages to the left.

Section 1 of walk

2. Turn right at the footpath sign and then walk through the churchyard. Follow the gravel path past the church for 60 yards and then pass through the wooden kissing gate. Then bear left and head along the left hand side of the field.

After 200 yards, cross the stile to the left of the metal gate and then bear left past the footpath sign. Walk down the hill along the left edge of the field for 350 yards. In the corner of the field, cross the stile and head through the trees for 40 yards.

Section 2 of walk

A. Turn right at the footpath sign and follow the made up path with trees. After 60 yards, continue straight ahead past the houses on to Tarmac Lane.

Continue for 300 yard up the lane ahead which is a gentle uphill between the trees. 60 yards on, ignore the turning to the right and continue straight ahead along Sarratt Bottom.

3. 250 yards ahead, turn left at the T junction on to the concrete track and follow it between the water meadows.

4. After 400 yards, pass the cress bed to the left.

B. Continue ahead towards the river and then bear left. Cross the footbridge over the River Chess and continue on the tarmac.

5. Turn left at the footpath sign and 20 yards ahead, pass through the wooden kissing gate to the right of the metal gate. Follow the path ahead through the trees (may be soft underfoot in places)

After 400 yards, the path curves to the right and head gently uphill.100 yards on the path levels out. 200 yards ahead, pass the fallen tree trunk to the left. Continue for 280 yards, pass through the small metal gate and exit the woods.

Section 5 of walk

C. Bear right at the fork ahead and follow the path with the water meadows on the left. After 350 yards, pass through the wooden kissing gate to the left of the wooden gate. Continue ahead on the grass track for 350 yards with the trees to the right and the meadows to the left.

Pass through the wooden kissing gate, and cross over the lane then continue ahead past the house. 60 yards ahead, bear left before the metal gates and follow the path gently downhill.

Section C of walk

6. Continue for 270 yards with the river to the left and then turn left across the wooden footbridge. Follow the path past the tall trees on the left. After 160 yards, the path bends to the left. 150 yards ahead, pass through the wooden kissing gate and cross over the lane.

D. Follow the made up track with the trees to the left and the field to the right for 250 yard then turn right. Walk for 40 yards and pass through the wooden kissing gate. Continue ahead steadily uphill along the left hand side of the field with the metal fence to the left.

Section D of walk

E. After 220 yards, pass the trees and laurel hedge to the left. Pass through the wooden kissing gate, cross over the drive and continue on the path.

Follow for 40 yards and then pass through the wooden kissing gate. Bear right and walk ahead past the church to the left and the cottages to the right.

Bear left on the lane ahead and its just 60 yards back to the Cock Inn at Sarratt for some much deserved hospitality.
